Our Day

A typical nursery session is as follows:

AM Session

8.45-9.00 -Doors open and children and parents are welcomed into nursery. This is a good time for parents to pass on quick messages to the nursery team.

9.00-9.10 – Morning register and carpet time.

9.10-9.30 – Group time. This is a special time for keyworkers to spend with their group doing small group activities and Fred time.

9.30-11.00 – Child-initiated learning indoors and outdoors. Children can choose where they want to play and learn with their friends, and which activities they would like to take part in. Adults support them in their play. Children are offered a drink and a snack during this time and nappies are changed.

11.00-11.20 -Group time. This is a nice small group time towards the end of the session when children take part in group activities such as maths games, exercises, yoga or funky fingers activities.

11.20-11.30- Story time. We usually have a story of the week which all the children get to know well by the end of the week. We end our session with singing time.

11.30-11.45- Doors open for the end of the session when parents can collect their children.

Lunchtime

We plan additional activities throughout the week based on the children’s interests, our theme and their next steps. The Keyworker of the Red Butterflies adapts the afternoon sessions on a weekly basis to meet the needs and interests of the children because they stay for the full day.

Physical Education -

We use the school hall on a Thursday morning and Friday afternoon when we do a formal PE session with our Butterflies in preparation for school.

Forest Schools

Children in Butterfly room take part in weekly Forest School sessions on our designated Forest School sites within the school grounds. This is a fantastic opportunity for them to learn about nature, changing seasons and their local environment. Forest School sessions take place on a Wednesday morning and a Thursday afternoon.

Welly Walks

Children in Caterpillar room go on weekly Welly Walks around the school grounds. They explore the school field, our Forest School sites and have great fun going on mini adventures together. Welly Walks take place on Tuesday mornings and Tuesday afternoons.
