Intent
The intent of our Design and Technology offer is to provide an enriching curriculum the secures and advances our pupils’ understanding of technological processes and skills. Featuring a range of engaging topics and processes, the children explore different real-life design problems. Through evaluations, focus tasks, and design and make projects, they identify the differing needs of a range of users and how their designs impact on the world around them. This helps our pupils to understand the designed world and move forward to become responsible users.
Implementation
During their time at Millbrook Primary school, our children will embrace an iterative designing process that will enable them to design and develop a range of meaningful products. Through activities that explore the differing areas of Design and Technology – including, structure, mechanism, electrical control, textiles and food – the children will develop an understanding of the importance of key individuals in the history of design and of the design process. A range of engaging and relevant challenges will help them develop confidence in their own safe use of a range of simple tools. This will ensure that the children are able to evaluate the effectiveness of the designed world around them and even improve it.
Impact
Children will have clear enjoyment and confidence in Design and Technology that they will then apply to other areas of the curriculum. Through carefully planned and implemented learning activities the pupils develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world. They gain a firm foundation of knowledge and skills to see them equipped to take on further learning in Secondary School.
