History
Intent
The intent of our History offer is to provide a broad, stimulating curriculum that challenges expectations, deepens knowledge, and develops skills. We enable our pupils to confidently engage with History in the context of school, local area, and the wider world – exploring the purpose of historical study and discussing the importance of learning from the past. Our curriculum has been devised to promote understanding of other cultures, and awareness of themes such as migration, so that our pupils celebrate their differences and are prepared to enter our diverse, modern society.
Implementation
During their time at Millbrook Primary School, our children are given the power to shape their own learning through enquiry-led units of work, which expose them to different historical periods and disciplines. We seek out opportunities for all pupils to flourish in History lessons that are inclusive and ensure every child feels valued and respected. Current events, links to the local area and educational experiences and resources are utilised to capture children’s interests and allow them to relate, compare and deepen their understanding of the historical period they are studying. This ensures that complex concepts are broken down into more understandable ideas.
