Art
Intent
The intent of our Art and Design curriculum is to offer and provide a creative and inspiring curriculum which develops skills, broadens pupils’ knowledge of techniques and artists, and cultivates an appreciation of existing pieces of art and various artforms. We enable our children to feel confident to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft, and design.
At Millbrook Primary School we seek out opportunities for all pupils to flourish in Art lessons that are inclusive and ensure every child feels valued and respected.
Our children are given the power to shape their own learning by experimenting with different techniques and being exposed to different artists, movements and encouraged to record their experiences.
Implementation
Our Art and Design curriculum has been developed in line with the National Curriculum to promote an understanding of how art and design contributes to culture as well as being used as a tool to understand the past and other traditions. Our broad, balanced and creatively driven Art and Design curriculum helps our pupils to develop their own unique flair and imagination and gives them a better understanding and knowledge of cultural capital and the value that art has in our modern society.
Impact
During their time at Millbrook Primary School, the skills and knowledge that the children learn progresses year on year. As artists, the children:
Think critically about how they are using each media to create a specific effect.
Are encouraged to not be afraid to try something new.
Embrace moments where their final product is not how they envisioned.
Talk openly about how art makes them feel, have opinions, and respect those of others.
